Almost there

Most everyone knows our big news by now, but in case you have not yet heard, Kevin and I are expecting our second child! I am actually due in two weeks on May 30th, and it is a girl! I have been meaning to update on the pregnancy for months but life got in the way. But now I am getting "how are you feeling?" quite often so I thought I could let everyone know at once what is going on. So far everything is good with the baby, all of the tests have come back with a negative result for any problems. I was very worried about her for most of the pregnancy as I had the H1N1 virus in my first trimester. It is extremely dangerous for the baby to have a high fever during that stage and the doctor said that I could lose the baby. Not only did she survive but she is thriving. By the way, Rogan also had H1N1 which scared me terribly but of course he got through it just fine. It was just like any other flu. Thank goodness he is so healthy.
As far as I am, well, I am 9 months pregnant so you can guess how I am feeling. I am large and uncomfortable but actually doing well. I have been more active this pregnancy since I am chasing after Rogan and I think it has helped me to feel better into the third trimester. I have to rest more often and can't spend too much time on my feet but otherwise I feel fine. Today I am washing the baby's clothes and organizing everything. It is more fun shopping for a girl, I get to buy lots of pink stuff! Kevin is very excited about having a girl, but he is a little nervous too. Rogan is such a typical boy into trains, dinosaurs and tools. I'm sure Kevin is thinking about the day he will have to play princess dress up! But he has been such a great help, doing chores that are too difficult for me and fixing dinner when I am just too tired. I am so grateful for a husband that is willing to do anything to help me, and especially grateful for the massages!
I also wanted to let everyone know that I am no longer planning a scheduled c-section. As I got closer to my due date I realized that I was disappointed with the labor and birth experience last time and wanted another opportunity to get the experience I desired. So I changed to a doctor who supports my decision (at 35 weeks!) and am now preparing mentally and physically for labor. I have been reading and talking to a lot of women and feel much more prepared this time around. So I don't know when she'll come, when she's ready I suppose. At this point I could have the baby any day now or it could be three more weeks.
I don't want to make this too long because I know attention spans aren't what they used to be but I wanted to talk about Rogan and his feelings about the baby. He has been so great throughout this pregnancy and is very excited. He talks about the baby a lot and likes to give her hugs and kisses. He understands that he is going to be a big brother and offers to help me often. He also acts differently in public when we see babies. He gets really excited and wants to play with them. I have no doubt that he will be a great big brother. It has been such a joy to experience this pregnancy through his eyes. I will admit that it sometimes makes me sad to think that he won't be the only one anymore but I also can't wait for the two of them to meet and to see the joy this new life brings to all of our lives.
We wish everyone the very best and look forward to seeing and hearing from all of you soon. Please send your thoughts and prayers for a successful delivery!

Halloween

So I'm a little late on this but I wanted to post the photos of Rogan in his engineer costume because he was so cute! We decided to take him trick or treating in our neighborhood. He was very excited when he found out that people would give him candy when he said "trick or treat". Although he didn't understand that once you receive the candy you leave. At the first house he took his candy and then walked through the front door. But he thoroughly enjoyed the experience and loved seeing the other kids in their costumes. Afterward we went to our friend's house, The Roblees, for a Halloween party. Rogan had a great time running around the house with their son Dane all hyped up on sugar!

The following photos are from the fall festival held every year by Kidspace Museum. It was a great event for Rogan as it was geared toward younger children. He was able to participate in most of the activities.

The Beginning

Yes, I have decided to start a blog. I wanted a way for everyone to be able to share in all that is going on in our lives. It can be difficult to stay connected to each other in this busy world that we live in. This is my way of recording all of the happenings in the Harper family as well as maintain a connection to our family and friends, those close and far away. I will try to be diligent about posting regularly so please check in every now and then. I hope this will encourage you to communicate with us more often. We can never hear from our loved ones enough!

I couldn't do our first post without some photos!
